Born in Stuttgart, Germany, on December 20, 1890, Carl Paul Jennewein, came to the United States in 1907 and studied at the Art Students League in New York from 1908 to 1911. During four years of advanced study he produced a number of distinguished works including Cupid and Crane in 1925 as a companion piece to Cupid and Gazelle to celebrate the birth of his third child, Alessandro. While designing that work on a trip to Rome, Jennewein created the Art Deco classic you see here, The Greek Dance. In order to secure commissions, Jennewein necessarily applied traditional styles for his larger works, but he was strongly influenced by Modernist styles for his smaller works. The mountain lion is a beautiful and graceful animal. All their movements almost seem calculated and predetermined so that they never falter and their paws never miss a step. And in the rare instance that they do miss a step, they always manage to land on those vigorous paws. The mountain lion has many names attached to it as well, depending on the region: puma, cougar, mountain cat, panther, or catamount. An adaptable, generalist species, the mountain lion is found in every major American habitat type. It is the second heaviest cat in the American continents after the jaguar. Although large, the mountain lion is most closely related to smaller felines. They prefer habitats with dense underbrush and rocky areas for stalking their prey, but they can also live in open areas. Like almost all cats, the mountain lion is a solitary animal. They are secretive and crepuscular, being most active around dawn and dusk. This is an adorable limited edition collectors item of 100. It is a statue of a frog fishing and sitting underneath a large mushroom. He sits smiling, enjoying his favorite hobby and casually resting one leg over his knee. He rests upon a toadstool, a small one sprouted next to his and an even larger one providing him shelter and a back support. A bucket is at his feet, empty and ready to keep some fish in, a make shift fishing rod rests in his hands. He has a beautiful patina that resembles an antique bronze as it is a teal patchy coat that covers the entire frog. The rest of this sculpture is a two tone brown patina, lighter at the top on the largest mushroom. Cast using the ancient Lost Wax Method and made of 100% bronze. This sculpture is in perfect condition. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base:Height 9 1/2″ x Width 12″. Marble Dimensions: 7 1/2″ X 4″. Height without base: 8 1/2. This bronze sculpture captures this beautiful nude girl releasing her dogs so they can begin the chase. She let them do the dirty work as they chase after their target. Her hair flows back behind her giving the viewer the sense of captured movement. She extends one arm out behind her as if she is trying to balance herself from being pulled forward from her dogs. The dogs have intense excitement and it is portrayed beautifully. This Bronze sculpture has great proportion and is suited with a two tone brown patina. This sculpture was cast using the “Lost Wax Method” and is mounted on a gorgeous black marble base and is signed by artist. Virgin Islands, however, an additional charge may be required.
