Limited Edition Numbered Piece from 100 produced. Sculpture cast in solid bronze by Michael Simpson. This piece is a traditional foundry solid bronze sculpture, and not the cheap cold cast resin which some mistaken sellers call bronze. Crafted using the “lost wax” hot cast method, a highly skilled process used for over 3500 years, and completed with a beautiful patina finish, these techniques guarantee that no two items will ever be identical. Michael Simpson is an unusual sculptor in that his body of work spans a variety of different subjects. He enjoys working on several sculpts at the same time, moving from one to the next as inspiration dictates. Michael has the unique ability to design extremely accurately and yet with loose contemporary feel, making his style easily recognised and much appreciated by collectors. Richard Cooper & Company work with UK sculptors and designers to create stunning and unique foundry bronze sculptures. Products range from the flamboyant figurative work of Landanski, through to the detailed wildlife studies of Michael Simpson. All bronzes are produced using the lost wax method and sealed with a protective wax, preserving and enhancing the rich layers of patina applied to the surface. Ondine by Dan Martin. Limited edition No 39/90. A substantial pure solid bronze figure with incredible detail cast by the traditional lost wax method, and direct from The Art Foundry, Royal Leamington Spa. Born in Leeds, Dan was first introduced to sculpting whilst studying entertainment design at Teeside University. Upon graduation from University he worked as a commercial sculptor and model maker, working on everything from small scale set models for stop motion animation, to full scale animatronic characters. After a few years he began to focus more on detailed sculpture and in terms of the visual style, it is impossible to place his work in one particular category-such is his talent. The Art Foundry has commissioned several pieces from Dan, which are due for release in 2020, and we are very excited to be collaborating with him in the future. Upon his head he wears a galea which was a soldiers helmet made of bronze. He wears a metal armor around his torso over the knee-length tunic. A paludamentum falls down his back, which is a cloak fastened to the shoulders usually worn by military commanders. At his feet are caligae which were heavy-soled sandals. His left hand holds a spear against the ground as he looks far off into the distance. The handmade bronze sculpture was molded using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a green patina finish for preservation. It is mounted upon a variegated black marble base with the artist Dalou’s signature. Aimé-Jules Dalou (31 December 1838, Paris – 15 April 1902) was a French sculptor, recognized as one of the most brilliant virtuosos of nineteenth-century France, admired for his perceptiveness, execution, and unpretentious realism. Brave and alert, the Scottie is hardy and lovable. They are charming and full of character. Playful and friendly as a puppy, he matures into a dignified adult. It has a long coat that reaches the floor, each hair is distinguished from the next giving the appearance of a real dogs hair and a nice thick coat. His bushy eyes brows almost cover his eyes, but in the right angle you can see the detail a beauty in them. Two curtains of hair part at his nose, exposing his mouth and snout. The painted detail is what really makes this look like a real dog as it has a two tone patina that blends from dark on his back to light gold at the bottom of his torso, also light on his ears, eyebrows and nose.
