Condition: This sculpture is in perfect condition. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base: Height 33″ x Width 22″ Marble Dimensions: 12″ X 6.5″. The bronze sculptures unique composition, seems as if the entirety of the body is slowly being taken, particle by particle, like dust in the wind. The beholder sees the final stages of this creative erosion before it is cleaned away to obscurity; giving us one more of him look before he is taken back to the ages of times past. The Native American warrior is seen from his right side. His eyes focus on the travel of his arrow just shot like a hawk it’s prey. His right hand, pulled back from the release, is attached to his chest. His full left arm extends out in front of him, firmly holding onto his bow, as the body of it runs downward anchoring the sculpture to the base. The sculpture was captured using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish for perpetuation. This is an exquisite bronze bust of a Native American warrior chief. He stares at the beholder, wild and bold, with an air of spiritual resilience. His hair is adorned with braids that are wrapped with strips of deer hide coated with a turquoise patina. A long feather lost in the back of his hair stretches towards gravity also finished in a turquoise patina. He wears a bone breastplate which was a popular chest ornament or armor. Since the hair-pipe bones were difficult and expensive to obtain, the number of bones in the plate often indicated the wealth of a warrior. Such breastplates were worn on occasion in battle, but could be penetrated easily by an arrow or a bullet, so they were mainly a decorative or medicine item. The sculpture was molded using the archaic method of lost-wax casting with skin tones finished in a brown patina stain for perpetuation. The chief is mounted upon a black marble and is signed. This sculpture depicts the famous Roman emperor with a naked chest, an usual image of the busts of Trajan. Trajan is remembered as a successful soldier-emperor, 98-117 AD, who presided over the greatest military expansion in Roman history, leading the empire to attain the maximum territorial extent ever by the time of his death. Born in the city of Italica (modern Sevilla) in the province of Hispania Baetica, Trajan’s non-patrician family was of Italian and Iberian origins. Trajan rose to prominence during the reign of Domitian, serving as a legatus legionis in Hispania, and supporting Domitian in 89 against a revolt led by Antonius Saturninus. Domitian was succeeded in 96 by Marcus Cocceius Nerva, an old and childless senator who proved to be unpopular with the army. After a brief and tumultuous year in power, culminating in a revolt by members of the Praetorian Guard, Nerva was compelled to adopt the more popular Trajan as his heir and successor. This bronze bust depicts the most famous stateman of Ancient Rome at his prime of political power. Gaius Julius Caesar began a dinasty of Roman emperors that would rule the empire for centuries. The Senate bestowed him the title of Imperator in 44 BC, although he preferred to be publicly named by his own name Caesar. Although he technically only acted as dictator of Rome, as of today the names of Caesar and Imperator are synonyms of emperor. Julius Caesar was born in 100 BC, the youngest child of a proconsul and Aurelia Cotta. Together with Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus and Marcus Licinius Crassus, he was part of the first Triumvirate. He was a brilliant general who inspired his men, with them he conquered Gaul and won the Civil War among the most celebrated achievements. As politician, he established important civil and social reforms during his career, named dictator in perpetuity, and finally was assassinated by a group of senators on 15th of March in 44 BC (Ides of March).
