Ondine by Dan Martin. Limited edition No 50/90. A substantial pure solid bronze figure with incredible detail cast by the traditional lost wax method, and direct from The Art Foundry, Royal Leamington Spa. Born in Leeds, Dan was first introduced to sculpting whilst studying entertainment design at Teeside University. Upon graduation from University he worked as a commercial sculptor and model maker, working on everything from small scale set models for stop motion animation, to full scale animatronic characters. After a few years he began to focus more on detailed sculpture and in terms of the visual style, it is impossible to place his work in one particular category-such is his talent. The Art Foundry has commissioned several pieces from Dan, which are due for release in 2020, and we are very excited to be collaborating with him in the future. Produced using the ancient art of lost wax casting to ensure superior detail and finish. Patinated in a stunning verdigris. Mounted on polished concrete. Weight approx 2.5 kilos. The Native American warrior is seen from his right side. His eyes focus on the travel of his arrow just shot like a hawk it’s prey. His right hand, pulled back from the release, is attached to his chest. His full left arm extends out in front of him, firmly holding onto his bow, as the body of it runs downward anchoring the sculpture to the base. The sculpture was captured using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a Green patina finish for perpetuation. As our wild flapper dances wildly she smiles and lifts her skirt up high as she dances the night away. She bends forward and lifts her leg as her small hard nipples poke out from her top. Her top is made a material with a textured surface and is barely being held up by a beaded neck tie. She is barefoot and carefree of her exposure. Her short hair is held back by an interesting head piece in the shape of a bird with a bead dangling from the middle and beads wrapping around her head. She has arm bands with studded accents and her skirt is held in place by a belt with a floral imprint. As she lifts her leg up high she pulls her skirt out to the side creating a gorgeous caption of still flowing motion. The sculpture was casted using the? And has a brown patina. The original marble statue of the Winged Nike of Samothrace (Nike of Samothrace) was uncovered on the island of Samothrace by French consul and amateur archaeologist Charles Champoiseau in 1863. In Greek mythology, Nike, also known as the Winged Goddess of Victory, bestowed triumph, both in war and in contest. As a war goddess she was often represented standing along side Zeus, Athena and Ares. As goddess of contests, she typically is portrayed adorning the winner with a victor’s wreath and/or sash.
