The base of the sculpture in its abstract sense resembles that of a winding tree trunk that blooms into a bust of wolf head that stares out of its power with somewhat pensive eyes. Wolves are probably one of the most misunderstood of the wild animals. Tales of cold cunning abound, in spite of the their friendly, social and intelligent traits. They are truly free spirits even though their packs are highly organized. The wolf has multiple meanings; they stand for loyalty, success, perseverance, stability, thought, pathfinder, teacher, intuition, learning, and the shadow. The 100% bronze sculpture was cast using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish. Height without base:11. 1499 is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture by CBuonarroti, housed in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. It is the first of a number of works of the same theme by the artist. The statue was commissioned for the French cardinal Jean de Billheres, who was a representative in Rome. The sculpture, in Carrara marble, was made for the cardinal’s funeral monument, but was moved to its current location, the first chapel on the right as one enters the basilica, in the 18th century. It is the only piece Michelangelo ever signed (See History after completion). This famous work of art depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion. The theme is of Northern origin, popular by that time in France but not yet in Italy. Michelangelo’s interpretation of the Pietà is unique to the precedents. It is an important work as it balances the Renaissance ideals of classical beauty with naturalism. The statue is one of the most highly finished works by Michelangelo. This sculpture is in perfect condition. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base: Height 23″ x Width 20″. Marble Dimensions:Diameter 10. Height without base: 22. This is an adorable limited edition collectors item of 100. It is a statue of a frog fishing and sitting underneath a large mushroom. He sits smiling, enjoying his favorite hobby and casually resting one leg over his knee. He rests upon a toadstool, a small one sprouted next to his and an even larger one providing him shelter and a back support. A bucket is at his feet, empty and ready to keep some fish in, a make shift fishing rod rests in his hands. He has a beautiful patina that resembles an antique bronze as it is a teal patchy coat that covers the entire frog. The rest of this sculpture is a two tone brown patina, lighter at the top on the largest mushroom. Cast using the ancient Lost Wax Method and made of 100% bronze.
