This is an elegant sculpture of an Egyptian pharaoh cat. It is believed that the house cat was first domesticated over 5,000 years ago in the valley of the Nile. When the people of Egypt chose to settle, they grew crops, which were often fed on by vermin. The people really grew to love the cats, and eventually cats became the property of divine Pharaoh. They were worshiped, and even buried alongside their masters. Since then cats have become domesticated all over the world, tied back to the roots of the African Wildcat. This cat wears a collar of ancient hieroglyphic letters to help protect it from evil and has its head slightly tilted to the left and looking downward, its long tail wrapping around it. The symmetry lines and details on this peace are beautiful and also delivers a calming effect on a bystander as most cats do. Handmade of 100% bronze and cast using the “Lost Wax Method”, it has a two tone brown patina. Sits on a solid black marble base and is signed. Ondine by Dan Martin. Limited edition No 50/90. A substantial pure solid bronze figure with incredible detail cast by the traditional lost wax method, and direct from The Art Foundry, Royal Leamington Spa. Born in Leeds, Dan was first introduced to sculpting whilst studying entertainment design at Teeside University. Upon graduation from University he worked as a commercial sculptor and model maker, working on everything from small scale set models for stop motion animation, to full scale animatronic characters. After a few years he began to focus more on detailed sculpture and in terms of the visual style, it is impossible to place his work in one particular category-such is his talent. The Art Foundry has commissioned several pieces from Dan, which are due for release in 2020, and we are very excited to be collaborating with him in the future. Produced using the ancient art of lost wax casting to ensure superior detail and finish. Patinated in a stunning verdigris. Mounted on polished concrete. Weight approx 2.5 kilos.
